Creation Station

Reuse:
to use again especially in a different way.
To bridge the gap between the
great need and available resources, the Dearborn County Solid Waste
Management District opened Creation Station in December 2004. The purpose
of Creation Station is to save landfill space by giving away FREE, new or
slightly used arts and crafts materials to Dearborn County schools, churches, and other
not-for-profit organizations, such as Scouts.
This program supplied 453 educators with over 18,000
pounds of materials in 2007!
We have supplies available for
crafts and science projects or many other uses in the classroom. Through
the generosity of residents and businesses we are collecting materials for
these purposes. We have items from paper towel rolls to brand new school
supplies, and poster board in many colors. We also have pine cones, yarn
and containers of just about every size and shape.
In order to participate, your
school or non-profit group must be located within Dearborn County. On your
first visit, please provide a
written request and proof of non-profit status. Please include a list of
all people from your organization that may be visiting. Home school groups
may provide verification from their Home School Association or a letter
declaring that the items obtained will be used in an education program.
Merchandise Usage
requirements:
All merchandise received from
Creation Station may not be sold, bartered or exchanged (whether at flea
markets, garage sales, thrift shops, auctions, raffles or in any other
context whatsoever). Merchandise may not be give to or take by
volunteers, officers, clergy or employees for personal use. It must be
used solely for the care of the ill, needy or minors, pursuant to the
members charitable purposes, as stated in the Internal Revenue Service IRC
Code 170 (e)(3).
Do you have materials to
donate?
Our reuse program
provides a means to transfer donated materials from businesses,
manufacturers and individuals to teachers and other educators for use in
their programs. Your donation will go a long way in supporting local
school and non-for-profit organizations. Why not donate overstocked,
discontinued, blemished, slightly used or otherwise unwanted materials to
Creation Station? We have requests for a little bit of everything and
anything, from cardstock and envelopes to fabrics and yarns. Contact Betty O’Banion, our Reuse
Coordinator, at 926-9963,
extension 6.
